What is a Portfolio?

A portfolio is a collection of items that helps showcase different things you have experienced in life. Others can look at your portfolio to get an idea of who you are, what you have accomplished, and what is important to you. It can also include samples of things you have learned, or some special talents you may have.

There are many different types of portfolios, and people create portfolios for many different reasons. Some people make portfolios to take to job interviews, and others create a portfolio just to have a personal record of their accomplishments. The portfolio you create will be useful for many purposes and includes all different areas of your life.

Kid's PortfolioA portfolio can also be constructed in many different forms.

Your portfolio may be:

  • an album of clippings, awards, and photographs;
  • a shoebox that contains items you have collected, a special craft you have made, or your varsity sports letter; or
  • even an electronic display of your accomplishments!

After you have decided what you want to put in your portfolio, you can decide how best to display the items.
